The Real News Network (TRNN) is proud to announce the launch of the Raising Voices Film Series; a free, monthly, film-screening event, happening every 3rd Thursday, featuring panel discussions, local artist performances, activists and community leaders.

The series will kick off on Thursday, January 19th with a screening of 3 ½ Minutes, 10 Bullets, an award-winning documentary by Marc Silver. The film explores the shooting death of Jordan Davis, a African American teen who was fatally shot by Michael Dunn, a middle-aged white man. The incident was sparked by an argument over the volume of rap music playing from Davis’ car at a Florida gas station. A live post-screening discussion with the father of Jordan Davis, Ronald A. Davis, along with Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, and award-winning attorney Dwight Pettit will follow the screening.

Panelists will examine the film, the perception of young black men in society, gun laws, and the current social and political climate on eve of the 2017 presidential inauguration. The event will open with a live performance by J Pope featuring Wendel Patrick.
