Jacksonville State 3, Alabama A&M 2 (25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-6)

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A valiant comeback attempt fell just short for Alabama A&M (8-15) as the Lady Bulldogs fell in a hard-fought five-set affair to Jacksonville State on Tuesday night at the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

Syretha Pride put away a team-best 13 kills on a .455 attack clip and made seven blocks (six solo) for the Lady Bulldogs. Terra Brooks notched a double-double with 14 digs, 10 kills and two solo blocks. Paris Smith had nine kills. Jaelin Gant and Courtney Oliver chipped in five kills each, with Oliver blocking five attacks solo.

Meredith Sieck put up 41 assists, and Helena Figueiredo collected 12 digs.

Jacksonville State’s Allyson Zuhlke led all players with 17 kills, and Mackenzie Romback added 10.

Alabama A&M held the upper hand in several categories as the Lady Bulldogs outpointed JSU 66-64, outhit the Gamecocks .209-.189 and turned away 15 attacks compared to 10 blocks by Jacksonville State.

AAMU flew out of the gate with a 5-1 start to the match, but the advantage was short-lived thanks to a 7-0 run from Jacksonville State. Alabama A&M tied it, but a big run by Jacksonville State pushed the Gamecocks lead to 19-10 en route to a 1-0 advantage. After Jacksonville State took set two, the Lady Bulldogs jumped on the comeback trail, shaking off a 17-15 deficit to steal set three and get back into the match.

The Lady Bulldogs tied it after a hotly-contested fourth set that ended with a Brooks kill, but Alabama A&M was unable to parlay its momentum into a strong fifth set, as JSU jumped ahead 10-3 in the final frame and rode said run to the win.
