SWAC: Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – January 17

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Southern’s Shawn Prudhomme has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in week 10 of the regular season.

Prudhomme averaged 22.4 points per game in the Jaguars’ most recent two contests – both wins. The senior posted 22 points, seven boards, two steals and block in a 76-75 win over UAPB on Jan. 14.

The Beaumount, Texas native followed  with a 23-point effort in guiding the Jaguars to an 87-81 win over Mississippi Valley State on Jan. 16. He added six boards, three assists, a steal and a block in the game. For the week, he shot nearly .500 from deep (10-of-21).

Currently, Prudhomme leads the SWAC in scoring at 17.5 points per game and made threes per game (2.7). He is also averaging 5.7 boards a night (ninth in the conference) and is second in the league at 1.1 blocks per game. This is the second time the senior has won the weekly player honor this season.
