BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State guard Ervin Mitchell has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during week nine of the regular season.

Mitchell posted back-to-back 20-point efforts as the Tigers went 1-1 in conference play this past week. Mitchell put in 21 points on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting in the Tigers’ 87-79 loss at Southern on Jan. 7. He also added two steals.
The senior managed 20 points in leading Grambling State to a 67-62 victory over Alcorn State on Jan. 9. Mitchell has posted seven games of 20-plus points this season for the league’s highest-scoring offense, and paces the conference in points per game with 17.3 a night.
