BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M’s Joi Ballard and Charrie Dennard and Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Travis Bibbs and Juwan Parker have been selected by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances in competition during Jan. 20-22.
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Senior | Lake Village, Ark.
The senior picked up two top-5 placings during UAPB’s meet at Indiana University’s Gladstein Invitiational. Parker was third in the 200m dash (22.13) teamed with three other Lions sprinters to finish second in the 4×400-meter relay race with a time of 3:13.64, which now stands as the best time by a SWAC unit this season in the discipline.
Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Sophomore | Houston, Texas
Bibbs cleared 47-05.75 feet to earn second place in the triple jump during the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University. He was also fifth in the long jump with a leap of 21-08.00 feet. Both distances represents career-bests for the Houstonian.
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Sophomore | Pompano Beach, Fla.
Ballard put up a strong outing at the Emory Crossplex Invitational as she won the 200m dash (24.90) and was fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.71 seconds. Ballard is off to a very consistent start this season, as she has finished in the top-7 of every individual meet she’s competed in this year.
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Senior | Fort Myers, Fla.
For the second-straight week, e Dennard picked up a victory in the women’s triple jump during competition, this time winning that event as well as the long jump during the Emory Crossplex Invitational. She claimed the long jump with a 5.86m distance and won the triple jump with a leap of 12.30m. The senior has the best efforts in SWAC this indoor season in the long and triple jumps.
