MUSIC AND FITNESS COME TOGETHER TO HELP STRENGTHEN FAMILIES

Birmingham, AL, May 27, 2017–The 4th Annual Steel City Jazz Festival is teaming up with the I Am A Father 5K Run/Walk as it hits Birmingham on the second day of this year’s music festival. Steel City Jazz Festival Founder/Organizer Cedric Allen said, “We support this initiative to bring awareness to strengthening families by encouraging increased Father engagement.” Allen added, “We would love to see our concert goers out running or walking in the 5K event and then enjoying the sounds and sights of the Steel City Jazz Festival later in the day.”

The I Am a Father 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 8:30AM. Families, teams, and individuals will start at the historic Kelly Ingram Park and take to the streets of downtown Birmingham, led by a Ford Motor pacer vehicle. I Am a Father 5K Founder David Manuel, a Birmingham native said, “I see the need in Birmingham in terms of highlighting, celebrating and strengthening our families.” Manuel quoted census data that showed that Alabama has the 3rd highest number of children growing up in father absent homes at 30.7%. Birmingham Stands at a staggering 61.5%.

That’s why the Steel City Jazz Festival is standing with I Am a Father 5K in encouraging everyone, not just fathers, to register now, to run or walk in the event, don’t delay. Participants will experience the signature warm-up with Celebrity Fitness Ambassador, “The Guru of Abs” DaShaun Johnson, live music and food during the inaugural celebration after the race. There will be plenty of family fun. Register online now thru June 1, 2017 at midnight at www.iamfather5k.org Proceeds benefit the Maranathan Academy in Birmingham for critically at-risk youth and young adults in desperate need of a second chance.
