RANDALLSTOWN, Md., Tuesday, October 4, 2016, Reminiscent of a vintage Miami man’s hub, Puff & Quill Smokery has taken Eldersburg by storm, specifically a Sikar storm, no punt intended. Sikar is a Mayan term for smoking, worthy of mentioning here, since just as the Mayans used basic tools to craft buildings and develop calendars so accurate that they are still in use today, P & Q as it has affectionately become known uses vintage furniture and azure hues to intrigued fundamentalist in the cigar world. It has a “warm and fuzzy feeling” that is sure to linger. Seated in Wards Chapel, on the cusp of Randallstown, the shoulders of Owings Mills and the doorway to Harrisonville, its 11100 Liberty Road address is more than a conversation piece, it is the perfect place to stop and take notice of the scenic surroundings and old fashion architecture.
On September 30, 2016, P & Q held its’ grand opening, drawing in crowds from all over Sykesville, Baltimore, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. The doors swung open at 1000am to receive the first group of guests anxiously waiting outside and remained opened all day. At 9pm with just a light moist wind blowing and opulent lighting, guests gathered out front to observe an eclectic red satin band draping the front doors and oversized glass window that bears the P & Q logo. After a short speech and heartfelt well wishes from spectators, the mark was made and the landscape of the cigar world forever changed. Nothing was fortuitous, dinner was served, a red carpet was laid and jazz permeated the atmosphere. It was very comfortable, there was little smoke enduring, since P & Q installed state of the art ventilation. Patrons were in no hurry to leave. The men wore slacks and the ladies stepped in stilettos to commemorate the special day.
The aficionados could be overheard throughout the day expressing their approval, “this place has a different feeling,” “I like it have been to all of the local shops. There is something special here.” They made small talk about the unique pieces that adorned the three rooms; including the private room with king-size chairs and two armoires, reserved especially for members. Guests made note of the antique Singer sewing machine sitting on the Japanese Fighting Armoire made of chocolate wood and the cylinder shaped coffee table that immediately captured the eye, as light reflected off the shimmering brass embellishes. Some watched sports in the back room on a sixty five inch smart television. It would be neglectful not to mention the signature black and white framed photographs skirting the rooms that depicted a simpler time of historic Baltimore and the matching hand painted original box art from a local artist. All of the art and assorted furniture pointed to the main attraction, a Humidor with shelving showcasing Tatianos and Ray Lewis cigars. There was something for everyone, no matter the preference.
If you are imagining a room filled with elderly men and clouds of smoke, you could not be any further from the truth; P & Q is a place for people from all demographics, blue collar, white collar, jeans or suits and is full of character. The only rules here is that you love cigars and don’t mind staying a while, as the conversation is interesting and at times hilarious. This is most assuredly “a place to unwind and engage,” based on the temperament of the diverse groups of cigar lovers observed traveling in and out on any day from noon to late evening.
P & Q is continuing the opening celebration by offering membership at a special rate of $150 until the end of the October, after which prices will increase. Each member will receive a complimentary cigar each month, their very own secured space for the personal stash accouterments and many more perks. This place is no cliché; it was intentionally designed to bring the gentlemen back to the conversation. To learn more visit
