The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) teamed up with the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), through the MEAC’s partnership with Coca-Cola, to provide House Warming Baskets to families in need during the 2017 MEAC Bowling Championship.
The MEAC encouraged each of the conference’s bowling institutions to donate at least one basket. The MEAC office also donated baskets. In total, the conference donated 17 baskets to the YWCA South Hampton Roads. The baskets were given to families in the YWCA’s transitional housing program that have been victims of sexual and/or physical violence in the Hampton Roads area.
The YWCA South Hampton Roads strives to be a source of strength, courage and empowerment for women and families facing crisis. The organization asks for basic home necessities for the House Warming baskets, such as: laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, facial tissues, toilet paper, bath towels, oven mitts, etc.
“It was an amazing experience and a bonding experience for the team. It feels awesome to give back to the community and feel good about yourself,” said MEAC 2017 Bowler of the Year Thashaina Seraus. “You have to give back to get something back. If you do your part to make someone feel good, you’re going to have an amazing day.”
