Gladstein Invitational (Indiana; Jan. 20-21)
(Arkansas-Pine Bluff)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rasheed McAlpin of Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished tied for second in the men’s 400m dash during Indiana University’s Gladstein Invitational this past weekend.

McAlpin clocked a time of 50.08 seconds. Teammate Tryan Lyons was fifth with a result of 50.38 seconds. Juwan Parker was third in the 200m dash (22.13., and Wade Garner was third in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.59. Parker, Lyons and Garner teamed with Malique Smith to earn second place behind host Indiana in the 4x400m relay race (3:13.64).

In field events, Travis Bibbs cleared 47-05.75 feet to earn second place in the triple jump. He was also fifth in the long jump.

On the women’s side, Jada Gammage clocked in at 1:41.87 to gain fifth place in the 600m run.

Emory Crossplex Invitational (Emory; Jan. 22)
(Alabama A&M, Jackson State, Southern)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second-straight week, Alabama A&M’s Charrie Dennard picked up a victory in the women’s triple jump  during competition, this time winning that event as well as the long jump during the Emory Crossplex Invitational.

Dennard narrowly missed setting career-bests in each event, winning the long jump with a 5.86m distance and claiming the triple jump with a leap of 12.30m. She was also sixth in the 60m dash (7.84). Teammate Joi Ballard won the 200m dash (24.90) and was fourth in the 60m dash.

Jackson State’s Quatasia Fantroy earned two top-3 finishes, coming in second during the 60m dash (7.71) and third in the 200m. Southern’s Jamira Russ was second in the shot put and set a personal best in the weight throw, finishing in the top-10 during the event. The Jaguar women finished fourth as a team in the meet with 54 points, just ahead of AAMU (53)

For the men, AAMU’s DeTorrian Green had another solid meet, finishing second in the 200m dash (21.38) and fourth as part of the Bulldogs’ 4x400m relay team. Joshua Hilliard of Jackson State ran a 8.26 in the 60m hurdles, good for second place. JSU’s men were fifth in team standings.

Southern also had a winner during the meet, as Desmond Thomas claimed victory in the pole vault (4.46m).
