As we get ready to celebrate our first year as a Black News/ Latino Publication on July 20th, 2017, we are always looking for ways to improve. For that reason, we will be adding a few features to our magazine. Keep scrolling for the goods!
Spotlight on Models:
We have been advertising our search for models for several months. Our main criteria? You must be a model of color. Plus-size models are welcomed and encouraged. We are also looking for male models to spotlight as well. Giving our models of color a platform to shine is our goal! The type of models we are looking for are those who have classy, elegant looks. For this magazine’s purpose, eye candy models will not be accepted. Our Head of Photography and Editor-in-chief (who is a model) will be spearheading this project.
To be considered, please email: email@example.com with the subject of the email as “ISM Model”, along with 5 photos to review. NO NUDITY please! We will also need your photographer’s name for credit purposes, as well as all of your social media connections. If you have a media kit, please include that in your email too. If any of these email requirements are not met, you will not be considered for publishing.
We are going a different route with our editorials. Indie Soul Magazine is still going to have a section on Editorials, but is expanding to a page called Plantation. Why and what is a plantation? By definition, a plantation is a large-scale farm that specializes in cash crops. The crops grown include cotton, coffee, tea, cocoa, sugar cane, sisal, oil seeds, oil palms, rubber trees, and fruits. For this purpose, we are redefining the word and associating black culture as the cash crop. We will be discussing facts and issues that keep us on the “plantation”. This will allow us to have real discussions on what our issues are and how to address them.
This will be a segment article for our new partner website called, Soul City. People can submit photos of their city that will be chosen for a digital gallery featured each month. The photos can be taken by both photographers and cell phone owners. We want to see the sites from your city or state that include the arts and so much more!
This was a great idea from our Head of Photography that creates a way to see the truths about where people live. Mainstream media may say one thing, but do you truly have a say? Don’t worry, as long as you provide us with a summary about where you live that goes along with your photo, we’ll write it up! This is not about promoting your business, brand, or artist, this is solely about where you live! Send 10-12 images to soulcityISM@gmail.com, as well as your name, social media connections, summary and contact.
Social Media Content: As we try to keep in stride with the ever-changing landscape of social media from a video, print, and audio perspective, we always look for ways to be continuous innovators. MY SOUL RADIO and Indie Soul Magazine have combined to bring you Soul Media! From shorts to films, we are expanding our reach for new endeavors.
