NEWS AND NOTES:

– Alabama State is currently on a 26-game winning streak against conference opposition. This is the sixth-longest active streak in the country.

– The first SWAC Digital Network volleyball broadcast is set for this Monday, Oct. 2 as upstart Grambling State plays host to longtime contender Texas Southern. First serve is set for 6 PM.

– Reigning SWAC Setter and Newcomer of the Week Meredith Sieck of Alabama A&M dished out 50 assists in the Lady Bulldogs’ four-set win over Texas Southern during the SWAC West Roundup. She is the first SWAC player since Jenna Siddiqui (JSU) in November 2015 to accomplish this feat in one match, and is the first league player in nearly four years to put up that many assists in a match that went less than five sets.

– Of teams that have had home matches this season — Southern’s first home dates are set for this weekend — Jackson State is the only SWAC team that has yet to collect a victory in friendly confines this year. With Southern Mississippi coming to town, the Lady Tigers will face stiff competition in hopes of changing that.

– Briana Dorsey of Alabama State continues to pace the conference in overall hitting percentage (.374), but Alabama A&M’s Syretha Pride leads in the category when it comes to conference matches only. During the SWAC West Roundup, Pride hit at a blistering .430 attack percentage.

– Mississippi Valley has three players — Taylor Selfridge, Jessica Bell and Nadia Crawford — that currently rank in the SWAC’s top ten for digs per set.
