New York, NY (BlackNews.com) — Dina C. Tate has released her debut book entitled Lizzie & McKenzie’s Fabulous Adventures: Madness in Madrid. After recognizing a lack of books with African-American girl protagonists, Tate decided to write a series to address the problem.
Tate said, “African-American girls are not seeing enough images of themselves in books. How do we encourage reading at a young age when our children can’t even see themselves in the stories they are reading? I wrote this book so girls can have characters they can identify with — that look just like them.” The book is a celebration of our multicultural world and inspiration for international travel. Girls are encouraged to revel in their personal identity and empower their sense of adventure.
Lizzie and McKenzie will travel the world to find the Seven Crystals of Sisterhood. While on their quest around the world, they’ll meet new friends who will help them learn about other cultures and eventually form the Global Girls Squad. Their first stop is the magical city of Madrid.
Lizzie & McKenzie’s Fabulous Adventures is intended for girls aged 5 to 9 years old. Tate’s company, Global Girls Squad LLC, will be self-publishing the Lizzie & McKenzie Chapter Book Series. Dina created Global Girls Squad as an opportunity for young girls to empower themselves through workshops, books, and educational forums.
