When we first debuted Indie Soul Magazine in August 2016, one of the things we set out to do was to have a section dedicated to models of color, both male & female. Our idea was to follow in the footsteps of Jet Magazine, but open the door to include Black women of all sizes: curvy, dark and short. We’ve even opened the door to male models as well.
Indie Soul Magazine decided that we needed to add this platform to our publication because we wanted a space where both models and photographers could showcase their art.
This is a platform for professional photos. This means that everything you do must be handled with professionalism and class. The problem is that we live in a society that thinks anyone with a camera or cell phone is an instant photographer. Models think that swimwear, nudes and stripper wear is modeling. Let’s starting looking beyond TV’s examples of modeling and photography.
With our modeling section, we are looking to promote the art. So what are the rules to be considered for our Indie Soul Model Section? You must submit (5) photos, along with each photographer’s credit. You will also be required to fill out a Photo Release Form in which you will list all your social media connections so that we can tag you once we post. It is your responsibility to have permission from the photographer to use the images you send to Indie Soul Magazine to use. No nudes are accepted!
These same rules apply to photographers who are submitting models as well. Please submit to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the future, we plan on hosting a mix & mingle for folks in the Industry of Modeling & Photography to create better resources for this profession. More information to be announced as it becomes available.
