THE 34TH ANNUAL NATIONAL BLACK MEMORABILIA, FINE ART & CRAFTS SHOW TO BE HELD IN APRIL 2018

Gaithersburg, MD (BlackNews.com) — The 34th annual National Black Memorabilia, Fine Art & Crafts Show will be April 14 & 15, 2018 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 501 Perry Parkway, in Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877. The objectives of this show are to educate the public on African American history and culture, and to provide an opportunity to purchase unique, rare and collectible pieces of Black memorabilia, fine art and crafts. Admission is $7 and students are admitted free. The show is indoors, and will be held on April 14-15, 2018. Show hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Items made by African Americans, made in the image of African Americans or about African Americans are considered Black memorabilia whether these items are positive or negative. Many of the items considered as black memorabilia reflect the way African Americans were viewed and treated. Items from the slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras to present tell a story of great progress of African Americans considering the obstacles they faced. Black memorabilia also documents African Americans contributions to the building of America.

At the show there will be many vendors from across the United States with Black memorabilia, fine art and crafts for sale. Items for sale include slavery artifacts, historical documents, black dolls, books, autographs, stamps, coins, toys, kitchen collectibles, advertisements, paintings, prints, magazines, jewelry, textiles, political and civil rights memorabilia, sports and entertainment memorabilia and much more. Just browsing the items for sale is an education on the African American experience in itself. There will be a seminar on “The Importance of Collecting Black Memorabilia” hosted by Jeannette Carson, co-founder of the first Black Memorabilia Show in 1984.

At this show, there will be educational exhibits that give an in-depth look at important people and events in African American history. These educational exhibits include Slavery Artifacts, Jim Crow, Buffalo Soldiers, Marcus Garvey, Black Panther Party, Dorothy Dandridge, Malcolm X, George Washington Carver, Negro League Baseball, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Tuskegee Airmen and others. Also, there will be autograph sessions with Negro League Baseball Players, Tuskegee Airman, Fred “The Hammer” Williamson – movie/TV actor in “Black Caesar”, “Hell Up In Harlem” and TV’s “Julia”, and Marc Copage – “Corey” in TV’s “Julia”. Other celebrities will be announced.

Last year’s event was a huge success
